Custom Concrete Pool in Balmain, Inner West Sydney
Located in Balmain within Sydney’s Inner West Council area, this custom concrete pool was designed for a backyard with two major challenges: sloping ground and tight site access.
The Nook
Instead of treating these challenges as limitations, the design uses them as part of the solution. The result is a 7m x 3m concrete pool with integrated retaining walls, garden beds, privacy planting and a seamless connection to the home’s alfresco, kitchen and living areas.
This project shows how a difficult backyard can still become a functional, private and beautiful outdoor space with the right planning.

Built for a Sloping Inner West Backyard
This Balmain backyard required more than a standard pool installation. The site had a natural slope, meaning the pool area needed to be carefully levelled and supported.
To solve this, the project included a retaining wall solution that helped stabilise the site while creating a clean, usable pool zone. Rather than making the retaining wall feel purely structural, it was designed to become part of the overall landscape.
The retaining system also doubles as a planter box, allowing lush greenery to be added for privacy and softness.
