Brief:
As they opted for a contemporary coastal vibe on their duplex, interior designer Kate and Luke of Sydney Swans eventually decided to include a pool in the layout of the backyard they are building. As an astute designer and investor, they conducted meticulous research and noticed how duplexes with custom-designed pools were selling for a premium price. After working with the team at Blue Haven, the designers and the owners realised that the best place to install is against the dividing wall of the property, which also allowed them to maximise the remaining space. The pools also had to be built fast as Kate and Luke race against the clock in their e-series – The Build Game; a renovation series that was featured on realestate.com.au
Construction:
Construction started with a knockdown of the old home ready to develop a new duplex in Matraville.
The pools had to be excavated, steel fixed, plumbed and concreted within days as house construction had to start as fast as possible which would restrict access to the backyard.
From the beginning of construction, the main obstacle our team at Blue Haven faced was that we were building on a site with significant volume of sand, both of which made it challenging and quite dangerous. Another trial we had to face was the fact that we need to build two pools in a duplex only within four days.
As we always say at Blue Haven, nothing is ever too challenging for us. With our trusted solution based team, we were able to move fast, and overcome the roadblocks getting in our way. We started with one big shell and eventually added the dividing wall down the middle. The wall was made of steel and concrete to make sure that it is built tough and will last long.
